When you’re reading a weirdly wonderful book like Annihilation, an exotic adventure novel about a group of scientists sent to explore the bizarre happenings in a mysterious government wilderness, we think the best beverage choice is the Sabroso Frost — a weirdly wonderful, cold and frosty drink made with orange juice and Yerba Mate, an exotic green tea from South American tree leaves.
What’s so great about Annihilation? Only everything. The novel is a quick read, but it’s packed with intrigue, mystery and a delightfully creepy plot. Hoyt and Carrie are obsessed with it, and we’ve gotten a few customers hooked on this trilogy (the first two are available at Church Street or as ebooks, and the third comes out September 2) already. It’s the perfect summer book — an addictive story that transports you to another place completely.
And what’s up with the Sabroso Frost? Well, it’s light and refreshing, which is what we’re looking for as this Alabama summer really gets cooking. The taste? Most people say it’s a little like an Orange Julius. And it’s actually good for you — it’s made from scratch at Church Street with Yerba Mate tea that we brew here, real orange juice, and just a little bit of agave to sweeten it up. Our former barista David (who’s now working at Jones Valley Urban Farm — we’re so proud) brought this recipe home with him from a semester in Argentina. And with just a little caffeine and a whole lot of delicious, we’re so glad he did.
